Kneel
a side table
a side table
Kneel is a side table inspired by the simplicity and elegance of Scandinavian design, showcasing the warmth of natural wood grain and the refinement of clean, minimalist lines. Its playful and unconventional form invites curiosity.
Project Overview
The Kneel side table is a design rooted in the principles of Scandinavian minimalism, where simplicity, functionality, and natural materials come together to create an object that is both practical and artistic. I aimed to craft a table that not only serves as a functional piece of furniture but also evokes a sense of curiosity and wonder through its unique form and structure. The design features a cantilevered form, maintaining balance while appearing as if it defies gravity. The dynamic nature of Kneel is further emphasized by its angles, which shift perspectives as the viewer moves around it. This constantly changing visual experience invites interaction and exploration, making the table more than just a static object — it becomes a living element within the space.

Design Process
I began by exploring different forms through sketches, with a focus on a playful element that would generate curiosity in the viewer. Through CAD modeling and rapid prototyping, I tested multiple iterations for size, balance, and specific angles. Working alongside orthographic drawings, I used woodworking to bring the design to life with the additional use of a domino joiner for joints. The final result is a side table that combines form and function, creating a visual experience that enhances contemporary spaces.
