Tombow
a packaging redesign
A redesign project blending precision and creativity by creating a detailed 3D model of a writing utensil and reimagining its packaging to enhance functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability to deliver a market-ready solution.
Project Overview
This project involved the detailed replication through 3D modeling of a writing utensil, followed by the redesign of its packaging to enhance functionality, aesthetics, and market appeal. The goal was to develop a precise digital replica of the original product and then reimagine its packaging to improve usability, branding, and sustainability. The project demonstrated the integration of digital design skills with practical problem-solving, resulting in a product that was both visually compelling and functionally enhanced. The redesigned packaging not only elevates the user experience but also aligns with modern sustainability efforts, making it a market-ready solution.
Design Process
I selected the Tombow Monograph Mechanical Pencil as the writing utensil I would replicate and redesign the packaging for. First, I researched the original packaging and established areas where I could improve on the design. I explored possible directions through sketches, before making a prototype of the design direction in cardboard and paper. 3D modeling the Tombow pencil required great detail and attention to achieve a successful replication. Finally, I then modeled my packaging redesign and rendered it.

Original Packaging
Mixture of cardboard and plastic – not the most sustainable, but very simple and straight to the point. How can I keep this clear visual communication while designing a more sustainable solution?
