PROJECT BRIEF
This project served as an introduction to the foundations of industrial design, material, construction, and focusing on designing for the needs of a user.
The goal of this project was to create a shelf for a specific user group. I chose to design a shelf for female students living in dormitories and studio apartments. I researched to empathize with and understand my user group, utilizing personas and mood boards to successfully relate to my users.
MY RESEARCH
Design Requirements
Due to both space and storage restrictions in dorms and rental units, my shelf needed to fit within certain design requirements.

User Personas
Understanding your user group and their lifestyle is a key component of research. Moodboards and visuals inspire and provoke thinking about what your design intentions are. A lifestyle board helps visualize the life and surroundings of a female university student living in a dorm space. An inspiration board with keywords and images that I want my design to focus on acts as inspiration. An Existing Products board with a matrix of qualities helps visualize potential routes I can take in ideation.
